Astronomers this week launched a new image of the largest spiral galaxies known to exist. You can view a larger version of the picture here.

The galaxy, called NGC 6872, is crowned with the title after a review of archival data from the Galaxy Evolution Explorer Telescope (GALEX) mission. From end-to-end NGC 6872 has a size of 522 000 light-years, or about five times the size of our Milky Way galaxy.
